Former 200 acre estate and mansion acquired by William Rockefeller in 1886. Only the foundation of the 220 room mansion remains. From the hiking trails you can view the Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge and the Tarrytown Light House. On the trails you will encounter horseback riders, runners, hikers, dog walkers and those enjoying a picnic at the top of the hill. In 1997 Laurance Rockefeller donated the property to New York State as part of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve
The Old Croton Aqueduct is an outstanding example of 19th century civil engineering and was New York City's first municipal water project. Ventilators played an important role in the function of the Old Croton Aqueduct. Allowing air into the system prevented a build up of pressure, or a vacuum and maintained the freshness of the water.
