  • Highlights: Great views, Bear Mountain Bridge overlook
  • Distance: 3.6 miles, up-and-back
  • Approximate roundtrip time: 2.5 hours (not including our snack time)
  • Total ascent: 344 ft
  • Max elevation: 927 ft above sea level
  • Fee: Free, bring your family and friends

Since the Trail Head for this hike is hard to find, we will all meet at the Old Bear Mountain Bridge Toll House, (Located on 35 Bear Mountain Bridge road, about .25 miles past the Camp Smith entrance) and everyone can follow me to the trail head, about 1 Mile north of the bear mountain bridge.

Hike Details

Plan to come with appropriate gear/clothing/footwear to handle a hike on irregular and possibly muddy terrain in warm weather.

The distance is about 3.6 miles with around 360 foot elevation gain. As always we will stay together as a group, so I expect the hike to take about 2.5 hours.

Take it slow in the beginning, there's nothing more discouraging than a quick " leg burn" . If you push yourself too hard and beyond your ability, your legs will turn to jelly and you'll probably need an extended break before you can continue.

We then hit the overlook and spend a relaxed time recovering, enjoying the views and break for a snack.
